John Phillip has been in the Executive Search profession for over 40 years. John is one of the few Executive Search professionals to make a lifetime commitment and career in the industry. He founded J. R. PHILLIP & ASSOCIATES (JRP&A) in April 1995. In April 2010 he founded J. R. PHILLIP Search & Consulting (JRPS&C) to evolve his practice in line with current Executive Search and Talent Acquisition needs and trends. John built JRP&A to a nationally recognized leader in the Executive Search industry. Prior to founding JRP&A, he was a Founding Partner of CP&A, a retainer fee-based search firm. He was also General Manager of Bridgegate Group (Stratford Group); a prominent West Coast-based search firm where he managed the firm’s Healthcare, Biotechnology and Biomedical portfolios as well as senior management responsibilities.

John began his career and held senior management positions for over 17 years with one of the largest search firms in the country, Metacor, Inc., which was headquartered on the East Coast. In addition to his management responsibilities, he developed and maintained a personal portfolio that included most major medical Fortune 500 companies as well as startup, entrepreneurial firms.

A recognized expert in executive search, John served on the Board of Directors of the National Employment Association, has been called upon by major firms such as Intel to emerging firms such as MedLink Corporation to serve as a Talent Acquisition and organizational development expert; and been quoted in such publications as FORTUNE magazine. Additionally, his techniques and knowledge have been passed on to numerous individuals he introduced to executive search and trained over the years. Many have gone on in their careers to found their own executive search firms.

Throughout the years John has personally developed clients ranging from acquisition targeted companies such as BioTrove, Vessix Vascular and Threshold Pharmaceuticals, to what would become more established publicly-held firms such as Abaxis, Cepheid, and Ionis Pharmaceuticals, and early-stage companies such as BennuBio and Immunomic Therapeutics. Additionally, he is requested by the venture capital industry firms such as Abingworth Ventures, Catalyst Health and Technology Partners, and OrbiMed Advisors to utilize his expertise assisting in strategic talent acquisition growth and repositioning projects. On occasion, he has taken a personal equity stake in clients such as Guava Technologies and Argos Therapeutics.

John has directed the successful completion of over 2000 senior manager, director, and executive level search assignments. His executive search experience spanning West Coast, East Coast, and Mid West locations provides him access to individuals at the highest executive levels nationwide.
